Free tickets in August

The Cardinals will be offering free Outfield Loge tickets (face value $35), maximum four per order, through their Cardinals.com web site as the result of a promotion that stretched over the just-completed homestand.

The club promised to deduct $5 per ticket for each win during the 8- game stand. The Cardinals won the first seven games as part of their first 8-game win streak since 2004. Hence, free tickets.

A team spokesman said a limited number are available but that, yes, they are free for Monday-Thursday home games in August. That applies to the Aug. 2-4 series against the Houston Astros and the Aug. 17-18 micro-series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Perhaps the Cardinals should run the promotion more often. Earlier this season the club won six of seven against the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds, leading to $5 tickets against the Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals in May.
